The category is growing faster than almost anything in fashion and it is served badly, because most producers approach it as ordinary activewear made longer. That is not what it is, and the difference shows the moment someone actually trains in it.
What modest sportswear actually is
A modest sportswear set covers the arms to the wrist, the legs to the ankle and the torso to mid thigh, and it does so while the wearer runs, lifts, stretches and sweats. Every one of those requirements fights the others.
Coverage adds fabric, fabric adds heat. Length adds drag, drag pulls the garment out of place. A high neck traps warmth exactly where the body needs to lose it. Solving all of that at once is a technical problem, and it is why the category needs development rather than adaptation.
Why lengthening a standard block does not work
This is the single most common failure, and it is worth being precise about it. Adding twenty centimetres to a standard sports top gives you a longer top, not a modest one.
The armhole. A standard sports armhole is cut high and tight because it is designed to be seen. A long sleeve set into that armhole binds the moment the arm goes overhead. A modest top needs a lower, wider armhole and a sleeve head drafted for full extension.
The hem and the hip. A tunic that ends at the widest part of the hip rides up on every stride and has to be pulled down constantly. The hem has to clear the hip, and it usually needs a side split or a shaped hem so it moves instead of catching.
The neckline. A high neck on a standard block sits against the throat and grips when the head turns. It needs to be drafted with the collar height and the shoulder slope together.
Volume. A looser tunic looks modest on a stand and becomes a sail on a treadmill. The ease has to be enough for coverage and controlled enough that the garment does not billow, which is a pattern decision rather than a styling one.
Opacity is the whole product
A fabric that is opaque lying flat can go sheer when stretched over the body, and in this category that is not a quality issue, it is the entire reason the customer is buying. A modest legging that turns translucent in a squat has failed completely, whatever else it does well.
We test opacity on the real garment on a real body under tension, not on a swatch pulled between two hands. Double layering at the seat, a higher denier yarn, or a knit with a tighter construction are all solutions, and which one is right depends on the weight and the hand you want.
The sport hijab
A sport hijab is a technical garment, not a scarf. It has to stay in place through movement without pins, breathe at the head where heat leaves the body, wick rather than hold sweat, and sit under a helmet or goggles without bunching.
We produce pull on and wrap constructions in lightweight performance knits, with flatlock seams so nothing rubs along the hairline, and mesh panels at the crown and nape where ventilation matters most. It is developed alongside the set rather than bought in, so the neckline of the top and the edge of the hijab work together instead of fighting.

Fabric
Performance knits sourced from the Italian mills that supply the technical end of the market. The specification that matters: weight in grams per square metre, stretch in both directions, recovery after repeated extension, opacity under tension, moisture management and UV protection where the garment is worn outdoors.
Recycled polyamide and polyester are established and increasingly asked for by buyers, together with the certification. Antibacterial and odour control finishes matter more here than in standard activewear, because a covered garment holds more heat. All of it is tested before booking rather than after delivery. How a modest sportswear project runs
Flats drawn with every seam type specified, because in performance wear the seam is a design decision and a standard lockstitch will snap under extension. First patterns drafted with negative ease calculated against the specific fabric, and with the armhole, hem and neckline built for coverage from the start.
The prototype is then worn and moved in: arms overhead, a full squat, a run. Opacity is checked under load. Corrections go back into the pattern, a second sample confirms them, the size set is proven across the range, and the approved sample becomes the production reference.
