Italian art direction, Milan and worldwide
Italian art direction, from the collection to the campaign
Concept, moodboard, casting direction, styling and the eye on set. Creative direction that starts from the garments we develop and produce, and follows them into the campaign, the show and the launch.
Creative direction is the difference between images that could belong to anyone and a brand people recognise. Ours is grounded in product, because we make it, and trained in Milan, because that is where we work.
Behind every strong fashion brand is a clear creative vision that ties everything together. Riccitelli Milano offers fashion creative and art direction, shaping a coherent aesthetic across collections, imagery and brand expression.
We help brands define and sustain a distinctive creative world that resonates with their audience.
What Creative Direction Involves
Creative direction is the art of defining and guiding a brand’s aesthetic vision. It shapes how a collection looks and feels, and how the brand expresses itself across imagery, presentation and communication.
We help brands establish this vision and apply it consistently, so every element feels part of one coherent world.
A Unified Creative World
A brand’s impact depends on coherence. When a collection, a campaign and a brand’s imagery all express the same vision, the result is far more powerful than the sum of its parts.
We bring this unity, ensuring that the creative direction connects the product to the brand and the brand to its audience.
From Mood to Expression
Creative direction begins with mood, reference and inspiration, and develops these into a clear, actionable vision. This vision then guides decisions across design, imagery and presentation.
Grounded in our understanding of product and craft, our direction connects creative ambition to real, beautifully made garments.
Direction Across the Collection
We guide the creative direction of a collection, shaping its overall character and ensuring a consistent point of view across every piece. This coherence is what gives a collection a strong, memorable identity.
It also connects naturally to our wider design services, from collection design to print.
Imagery and Presentation
How a collection is presented shapes how it is perceived. We provide creative direction for imagery and presentation, ensuring lookbooks, campaigns and brand visuals express the same vision as the product itself.
This connects creative direction to our branding and marketing capabilities, for a fully coherent brand world.
Why a campaign made in Milan looks different
Grounded in product
We design and produce collections. Our direction knows what the fabric does, how the garment moves and what it costs, so the concept is real before it is beautiful.
Trained in Milan
Taste built on Italian image making: restraint, proportion, light, casting on character. The references are in the city, not only on a screen.
From concept to set
The art director who writes the concept is the one on set and in the edit. Nothing is lost between the moodboard and the final image.
Across the whole launch
Campaign, lookbook, film, show, event, press material: one direction, one brand world, in Milan or wherever we shoot.
What Italian art direction brings to a fashion brand
Art direction is the discipline that turns a collection into a brand people recognise. This is how we practise it, from the first moodboard to the eye on set.
Creative direction for the brand, art direction for the campaign
Creative direction sets the world a brand lives in: its references, its tone, the kind of woman or man it dresses, the way it shows product. Art direction applies that world to one campaign, one show, one season. We do both. For a new brand we start with the creative direction, usually alongside brand identity and brand strategy, and then art direct every production that follows so the brand looks like itself season after season.
Concept, moodboard and shot list
Every production begins with a concept presented to the brand: references, moodboard, casting direction, locations, styling direction, a frame by frame shot list and the formats each channel needs. The brand approves the concept before anyone is booked, which is the cheapest moment to change your mind. The shot list then becomes the contract for the shoot day: the photographer, the stylist and the crew know exactly what has to come home.
The Italian eye: light, proportion and restraint
Italian art direction has a recognisable discipline, learned from decades of image making for the houses that defined fashion photography. Natural light or light that looks natural, proportion over decoration, casting on character before beauty, styling that lets the garment speak and retouching that nobody can see. It is a way of looking that makes a small brand feel established and an established brand feel current, and it is what we bring to every set, in Milan or anywhere in the world.
The art director on set
A concept only counts once it is on set. Our art director is on set from the first frame to the last, deciding with the photographer and the stylist how each look is shot, keeping the live selection moving and protecting the concept when the day gets long. The same art director follows post production, so the selection, the retouching and the colour grade finish the idea that was approved at the concept stage.
Italian art direction for brands in the Middle East
Many of the brands we direct are based in the Gulf and the Levant: Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait, Beirut. They come to Milan for one thing, the Italian eye, and they need it applied to their own market: modest fashion and abayas shot with the proportion and the light of a Milan campaign, evening wear and bridal directed for a Gulf audience, local casting with an Italian standard of styling and image. We work in English, we travel to the region for castings, fittings and shoot days, and the brand follows every step from the moodboard to the final selection. The result is a campaign that looks made in Milan and speaks to customers in Riyadh or Dubai, with the production run from one contract.
Art direction for a collection produced in Italy
When we also produce the collection, art direction starts earlier: at the sketch, the fabric and the first fitting. The campaign concept grows with the garments, the colour story of the images matches the colour story of the collection, and the launch is designed as one piece, from the clothes to the pictures to the press.

One contract, from the fabric to the picture
Riccitelli Milano is a production agency first. We develop and manufacture collections in Italy, and that changes how we shoot them.
The samples are in our hands weeks before the shoot, so fittings happen on the real garment and the art direction grows with the collection instead of arriving at the end. The same project manager follows production and campaign, the delivery dates are aligned, and you sign one agreement instead of five. For brands producing in Italy from abroad, this is the shortest path between the first sketch and the first sale.
The problems brands bring us
- Identity"Our images are good but they could be anyone."
A concept built from the brand and the collection, and one direction across every image, is what makes them yours.
- Coherence"Campaign, shop and social look like three brands."
One art direction for the season, with guidelines the next shoot has to follow.
- Product"The creative team never saw the clothes until the shoot."
We develop and produce the collection; the direction starts in the atelier.
- Execution"The moodboard was beautiful and the pictures were not."
The art director who writes the concept is on set and in the edit.
- Distance"We are abroad and need a direction we can trust from Milan."
Concept, shot list and casting shared and approved remotely, then our direction on set wherever the shoot is.
