Menswear Manufacturing in Italy

Riccitelli Milano develops and manufactures menswear in Italy for fashion brands: tailoring, shirting, outerwear, knitwear, jersey and trousers, made in the rooms where each of those crafts is strongest. Italian menswear is the reference the rest of the world measures itself against, and the reason is not design. It is construction.

We are a fashion production agency in Milan. A brand hires us and we produce the collection, answering for the result at every stage, from the first pattern to the packed order.

What separates Italian menswear

Menswear is unforgiving in a way womenswear is not. The shapes barely change, so the only thing left to judge is how the garment is made, and a customer who wears a jacket every day will find every fault in it.

The shoulder. Italian menswear built its reputation on softness: a lighter shoulder, less padding, a sleeve head set to move with the body rather than hold a line against it. The Neapolitan spalla camicia is the extreme of this, gathering the sleeve into the shoulder like a shirt.

The chest. A floating canvas of horsehair and wool, pad stitched and never glued, is what keeps a jacket alive after two hundred wears. It is the single clearest marker of whether a maker is serious.

The trouser. Menswear trousers carry more construction than most people expect: the waistband, the seat seam and the rise decide whether the garment is comfortable, and they are the first things to fail in a badly drafted pattern.

What we produce

Tailoring: suits, blazers and jackets, waistcoats and trousers, in full canvas, half canvas and unstructured constructions. Shirting in poplin, oxford, twill and linen. Outerwear and coats, from tailored overcoats to technical pieces. Knitwear in fine and heavy gauge. Jersey and cut and sew. Denim, leather outerwear and the accessories that finish a look.

Bespoke and made to measure tailoring runs through our suit manufacturing rooms in Lombardia.

Fit, and why menswear grading is different

Menswear is sold on a drop, the relationship between chest and waist, and that relationship does not stay constant across a size range. A grading rule that works from 46 to 52 usually fails at 56, and the failure shows in the armhole and the seat, where it cannot be hidden.

We draft the base pattern, cut it, make it up and correct it before grading, then prove the size set on real bodies. That block then belongs to you, which is what makes the second season faster than the first. See pattern making and grading.

Cloth

We buy from the Italian and English houses that supply the best tailoring rooms in the world. For menswear the decision is usually about weight and recovery rather than appearance: a cloth that looks beautiful on the roll and bags at the knee after a day is a failure, whatever it cost. Shrinkage and fastness are tested before booking, and consumption is measured on the real pattern. See fabric sourcing in Italy.

How a menswear collection runs

Concept and design, materials and sourcing, technical development with flats, patterns, grading and a tech pack, then sampling and fit through to an approved sample, then production with quality control against that sample at every stage. Tailoring needs more fitting rounds than anything else in the range, so it goes into development first.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Italian menswear different?

Construction rather than design. A lighter shoulder with less padding, a sleeve head set to move with the body, and a floating canvas through the chest that is pad stitched rather than glued. The shapes in menswear barely change, so how the garment is built is the only thing left to judge it on.

Do you produce full menswear collections or single categories?

Both. Many brands start with tailoring or outerwear and expand once the fit and finishing are proven. Producing the range through one partner is what keeps the blacks matching and the fit recognisably from one hand across categories.

How is menswear grading different from womenswear?

Menswear is sold on the drop between chest and waist, and that relationship does not hold constant across a size range. A rule that works in the middle sizes usually fails at the largest, and it shows in the armhole and the seat. The size set has to be proven rather than assumed.

Can you produce menswear in small quantities?

Yes. Minimums are set per product rather than per client, and each garment is placed where a run of that size makes sense. A canvassed jacket and a jersey piece are made in different rooms with different constraints.

How long does a menswear collection take?

Usually three to six months from approved design to delivered production. Tailoring needs the longest development because it takes the most fitting rounds, so it goes in first. Cloth availability is the most common variable, which is why materials are booked early.

Do you produce bespoke and made to measure?

Yes, through our tailoring rooms in Lombardia, both for brands offering it as a service and for private commissions. That work is covered on our tailored suits pages.

Who owns the patterns you develop?

You do. The patterns and designs developed for your brand belong to you and your collection is produced exclusively for your label.
